Self Guided Learning in San Francisco Bay Area - CPR BLS, ACLS, and PALS Courses

Healthcare professionals in San Francisco Bay Area face a recurring problem: AHA course renewals come due every two years, but packed hospital schedules make traditional classroom training hard to fit in. Self-Guided Learning™ courses from Safety Training Seminars solve that. They combine self-paced online learning with a self-guided skills session at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center—no fixed class times, no instructor dependency.

Here’s how it works, and why Bay Area clinicians are choosing it.

Self-Guided Learning in San Francisco Bay Area

What Is a Self-Guided Learning Course?

Self-Guided Learning™ is a course-based format from the American Heart Association® that pairs two independent components:

  1. Online cognitive learning — completed on any compatible device, anytime
  2. A self-guided skills session — completed at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center

Learners complete both components independently. Upon successful completion, they receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard for BLS, ACLS, or PALS. The eCard meets requirements from hospitals, clinics, licensing boards, and employers nationwide.

This approach differs from blended learning (which requires an instructor-led skills check) and traditional classroom learning. There is no scheduled group session. No instructor facilitates the skills component.

How the Online Learning Works

The cognitive portion uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum. The system continuously assesses your knowledge and confidence in real time, then adjusts the content path based on what you already know.

Experienced nurses and physicians spend less time reviewing familiar material. Newer learners receive targeted feedback exactly where they need it. The result: a personalized learning pathway that focuses on knowledge gaps, not seat time.

Content includes interactive patient care scenarios, scenario and algorithm-based exercises, and clinical decision-making simulations—structured around the latest American Heart Association guidelines.

BLS online learning runs 1–2 hours. ACLS and PALS each run 2–3 hours.

How the Skills Session Works

After completing online learning, you schedule a hands-on skills session at a CPR Verification Station learning center. The session takes approximately 30 minutes for BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

During the session, you perform required psychomotor skills independently. The CPR Verification Station center provides real-time, objective performance feedback—measuring compression depth, rate, recoil, ventilation volume, and timing against AHA-defined criteria. No live or virtual instructor coaches or evaluates you.

You can repeat the required skills activity as many times as needed to achieve a passing score.
